You may have wondered what the difference is between a llama and an alpaca, I sure did when I thought of it. Llamas are larger than alpacas, meaning they are taller, and they weigh more. Llamas have a longer face than an alpaca, and their ears are bigger and larger. Llamas were bred to be pack animals and alpacas were bred for their high quality and luxury fibers.
When you have a farm or ranch, llamas are great for protecting the other farm animals; if they detect something or a threat around them, they will alert and be very loud. Whereas alpacas are timid and relaxed, they can alert if they are threatened, but they aren't guarding animals like llamas are.
